  1. LA-Sen: How has the recent airport incident affected people’s perception of him back in Louisiana?

CT-Sen: No comments, just paying attention.  Especially since this is a home-state thing.

  2. Governor Richardson has not made a decision as to whether he’ll sign it into law.  I’ll bet he does though.

SANTA FE – The New Mexico Legislature has voted to repeal the death penalty and replace it with a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The state Senate voted 24-18 on Friday for the repeal bill, sending it to Gov. Bill Richardson for his signature.

The House approved the legislation a month ago.

Richardson, a second-term Democrat, has opposed repeal in the past but now says he would consider signing it.

“I haven’t made a final decision,” the governor said this week.

New Mexico, one of 36 states with capital punishment, has two men on death row whose sentences would not be affected by repeal.

  3. KY-Sen: With the more recent round of craziness coming from Jim Bunning recently, I wonder how his poll numbers are doing against the prospective Democratic challengers. How he would stack up in a primary against Trey Grayson, and if a poll was done putting up Bunning against “a generic Democrat”

KS-Sen: Now that Sebelius is out, who’s available from the Democratic side, even though this race will pretty much stay in Republican hands anyway.

  4. I am not a Uconn grad – but I like the way they play.

    2. Courtney Paris has guaranteed a championship for the Sooner women. Or she will give her scholarship back to the school (about $64000).

    3. Back to politics. NY20. If we win it, it will cook the Repb’s goose and more. It may even save Paterson.

    4. Borrowing from the title of a Russian novel – “How the Steele was tempered”

Nicolai Ostrowski’s autobiographical novel (How the steel was tempered) – the life of a communist fighter in the civil war in 1920s. Has anyone else read it? Heard about it?

    5. Maxine Waters – she in a race to join Charlie Rangel, Bill Jefferson, Ronald Burris and Nikki Stinker.

    6. Whay is Rush Linbaugh saying about the MN senate race?

  5. Using the SSP CD numbers, I’ve calculated that Obama’s average performance in each Republican-held district is at 42.75, I’ll be calculating McCain’s performance in all Democratic-held district (Excluding NY-02, NY-03, NY-04, and NY-05 until those get updated)

  6. There has been a lot of talk in the MSM about the Republicans making some gains in 2010.

In order to minimize that or make gains ourselves the big races to look at are the 30-35 Republican seats that voted for the President(Feels good saying that.

Most importantly those with a history of voting the Dem canidate in previous elections (00,04). And are held by underperforming Reps who haven’t been seriously threatened (minus Gerlach)

Some that come to mind are in no particular order are:

    NY 03 (King):

    DL AT (Castle):

    PA 06 (Gerlach):

    PA 15 (Dent):

    IA 04 (Latham):

    MN 03 (Paulsen):

    LA 02 (Cao):

  7. SC-02: Could AA turnout be high enough in a midterm?

    VA-07: I’d LOVE to beat Cantor…

NC-09: Obama improved enormously here and McCain only won it 55-45 (not too bad for a Southern district).

AL-03: Protection against Bobby Bright getting knocked out or a trade with the GOP if necessary to make this safer in 2012 if Bright survives.

  8. Right now I am interested in freshmen Democratic members of Congress who won seats from Republicans in states in which we can grow to long-term competitiveness.

First I am concerned about CO-04 Markey and NV-03 Titus.

Next on my list are OH-1 Driehaus, OH-15 Kilroy, and NM-02 Teague.

Finally, I am keeping an eye on AZ-01 Kirkpatrick, OH-16 Boccieri, and NM-01 Heinrich.

  9. Ben Chandler said on Friday he is considering running for Senate in 2010.

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) – U.S. Rep. Ben Chandler says he’s considering a run for the U.S. Senate.

Chandler says he’s being encouraged by supporters and he’s been approached by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee about a possible run next year.

It is interesting that the DSCC is encouraging Chandler to run despite LG Mongiardo having already announced and AG Conway likely to get in.  Chandler may ulitmately decide not to run (unless perhaps the primary field is cleared), but it is good to see the DSCC pursuing all options.
